        The Spark calculator was built to give you a feel for which everyday decisions affect your emissions the most, so you know where to start if you want to achieve a big impact with small measures.

        How does the calculator work?

        The Spark calculator was built to give you a feel for where most emissions you have control over come from — it shows emissions from heat and electricity consumption in your home, from your travels and from what you eat and buy.

        Things it doesn’t include are emissions from constructing your house, from making your car, or emissions from the building of roads and schools in your country. If these were included, the per capita emissions of a Finn would be about 11.5 tonnes of CO2 equivalents — this means that the Spark calculator comes quite close to showing the 70% of emissions we as consumers are directly able to control (the results of an average Finn lie somewhere between 7 and 8 tonnes).
